History
The 501(c)(3) corporation Kao Family Foundation was established in 2004 by Dr. and Mrs. Min H. Kao¹ as a Kansas nonprofit corporation to operate exclusively for charitable, educational, literary and scientific purposes. The foundation was qualified to operate in California in 2020 as the Kao Family Charitable Foundation.
From the outset, the Foundation was focused primarily on three areas:
- Electrical and Computer Engineering Secondary Education
- Medical Research
- Arts and Culture
In 2019, Dr. and Mrs. Kao founded the Kao Family Education Foundation in Taiwan with a goal to improve education standards, promote social welfare activities, and enhance civic engagement.
In 2020, with the expansion of the board of directors and newly achieved qualification to operate in California, the Foundation expanded its geographic reach and areas of interest to include:
- STEM Education
- Health and Medical
- Humanitarian
- Arts and Culture
- Environmental Sustainability
