Surfrider Foundation

Surfrider Foundation was founded 40 years ago by a group of Malibu surfers concerned about the health risks associated with the environmental threats of coastal development. Still based in Southern California, Surfrider is today the largest nonprofit grassroots organization dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans, waves and beaches. The organization has over 200 chapters and student clubs, along with supporters, volunteers, and activists, across multiple regions. Surfrider has also been at the forefront of efforts to fight offshore oil drilling in U.S. waters, and KFF supported Surfrider’s efforts to contest new offshore oil drilling threats in Southern California.
